A Rural and Agricultural Frontier of Southwest Johor
Mukim Ulu Benut is a sub-district located in the southwestern part of Kluang District, Johor. It is known for its agriculture, traditional kampungs, and FELDA settlements, and is administered under the Majlis Daerah Simpang Renggam (MDSR). Strategically bordering the Pontian District, Ulu Benut acts as a transition zone between the inner Kluang region and Johor’s western coast.
Formation & Historical Background
Ulu Benut, meaning “Upper Benut”, refers to the upper stream areas of the Benut River, which historically supported early Malay settlements and agricultural lands.
During the British colonial period, rubber estates and smallholder farms developed throughout the mukim.
Post-independence, the region saw the development of FELDA schemes to enhance rural productivity and livelihood.
Over the years, it has retained its rural charm and close-knit community lifestyle, while gradually integrating basic infrastructure and public services.
