Kampung Bahru, especially its southern sectors, is a traditional Malay village situated near the Yong Peng–Parit Yaani–Chaah corridor. While parts of the village fall under other administrative authorities, its southern zone is governed by the Majlis Daerah Yong Peng (MDYP) and remains one of the most authentic kampung environments in Batu Pahat’s southern belt.
Formation & Historical Background
The word “Bahru” (from “Baru”) means “new”, indicating a newer settlement compared to older kampungs in the area.
Originally built by settlers migrating from neighboring kampungs such as Parit Yaani and Rengit, it expanded into a cluster of Malay kampungs.
The southern parts remained focused on paddy farming, coconut groves, and livestock, along with religious and cultural activities.
Over time, modern amenities were introduced but the kampung identity remains intact.
